 I use Linux because I got tired of the constant administration, updates, and suceptibility of an overpriced, bloated and inefficient operating system. I started Gigastrand because I believe that EVERYONE should have the right to choose an operationg system that isn't programmed by lawyers and doesn't need to be re-loaded because you click on the wrong link in a Google search. I see it every day and you may have even experienced it yourself. I certainly did.

I bought an Asus EeePC Netbook with Windows XP. Having only been in posession of this BRAND NEW system an hour and despite having just loaded new Antivirus, I went looking for a driver and clicked on the wrong link in a Google search. Keep in mind, I have been supporting PCs and removing viruses from infected PCs for over 15 years so, I am not new to this. But, after 3 hours of fighting this infection, I gave up and reloaded the PC from scratch. I now run Linux Mint on that PC.

So why not use Macs? I don't use Macs because I already have a PC that runs Linux - which is essentially what a Mac PC is. It is the same reason that I have never owned an iPod or an iPhone as I already own an MP3 player and a cell phone. I did not have to over pay for the privilege either.

Now don't get me wrong, Windows, Macs, iThingys and other such equipment have their place and they all do a very good job of catering to those who do not know any better. However, you are not one of those people. You are looking for something new, different or better. Here is hoping you find that something here.
