I
just
thought I would add my .02 worth here. I have been playing with
Linux for about 2 years now. I have 3 Linux (Linspire, SuSE 9.1,
Xandros 2.5) and Windows XP installed on my system. My wife and
Granddaughter both have a dual boot system with Xandros.
I
was really hesitant to try Linspire due to what I had read in different
forums and article's.
I
work with Windows all day, I'm a database developer, and I really get
tired of the constant rebooting and updates you have to go through with
Windows. Plus, in working with large databases, Windows does not handle
it's
resources very well. But when I get home at night the last thing I want
to do is configure or fix my OS. I wanted something that is easy to use
and I can just do what ever I want or need to do.
I
have tried
quite a few distros, Red hat, Fedora, Mandrake, Xandros, SuSE, JAMD,
PC Linux and a few others. SuSE has been my favorite, up until I tried
Linspire. But all of them did not really satisfy what I wanted in an
OS. So about a month ago I decided to replace Windows XP on my laptop
with something else. I tried several of the distros I had laying
around. Either something didn't work or when I tried to load an
application or try to get a component to work, it would break the OS.
I
was quite frustrated. As I was looking through my stack of OS CDs I
found my Lindows discs I had gotten on one of Lindows' special offers.
So I decided to give it a try. I loaded without a problem and then to
my surprise everything worked!
So
as I was playing around with it I decided to give the CNR a try. Once
again I was able to load all kinds of applications and everything still
worked! The only thing I wasn't real pleased with was the graphic
display but Window's didn't look that great either. Well, I used it on
the laptop for several weeks and when nothing broke I decided to
replace my Libranet install with Linspire. Once again everything went
smooth and after it was installed I had another surprise. All my
favorite programs I had installed on the laptop were ready for me to
install on my Desktop.
Well
if all this wasn't enough, I notice
that when I was in the CNR that I would see "CNR update failed" so one
day I was surfing the forums and saw a thread about this issue. I saw
where one of the staff provided a link to manually update the CNR
client. Well when I followed the instructions the CNR Client broke and
wouldn't load. I thought "Well here's another distro broken."
Boy
was I
wrong. I posted my problem and had a reply back is short order on what
I need to do to provide the staff with the information they needed to
fix my problem. When I uploaded that report I didn't expect to hear
from anyone for a day or two. Once again I was shocked. I had a
response
within minutes not days and the response had an attachment to fix my
problem.
Linspire
is now my primary OS!!!
Not only is it easy to use, stable and has so many applications to
choose from but they also have some of the best support around. The
only other company that could rival their support is Palm One, they
also
have great support.
I'm
happy I gave Linspire a try and I'm glad to be a part of the Linspire
community.
