So
Easy, My Mom Can Use It!

My mother has always been
technologically challenged particularly when it comes to computers.
She'll cuss and swear at the computer from sunup to sundown because it
is not doing what she wants it to do.
Now
before I go on to the
rest of the story, for those of you who do not know my parents are
living in Georgia, my parents are living in Georgia. My mother came
back for my Grandmother's funeral and stayed with friends for a while.
On
Christmas day, her "friends" kicked her out. So now my mother is
staying with us for now.
Anyway,
my only computer at home is a Linspire box with all kinds of neat
things loaded on it. I took the scanner/printer combo (Epson CX5200)
from the store and hooked it up so my mom could print photos she took
earlier. She also had a box of old photos my Grandmother had that she
wanted to scan in, manipulate and reprint.
I
sat her down at the
computer with Open Office Draw (it has a built-in scanner interface)
and showed her how it worked. She printed some off, scanned some in,
and even e-mailed a few to family with no complaints. She even seemed
to take to Gimp pretty quickly - something I have yet to fully
understand.
