![]() What is Ice Cube Checkers? Ice Cube checkers is a board game
where the object of the game is to capture both "King Kubes". It
is played with 12 glass beads (5 of one color, 5 of another, and 2 King
Kubes) and a 12 cup (2 rows of 6) gameboard. Players chase each
other around in a circle unitl one player captures both King Kubes.
Complete Rules Objective
To capture both King Kubes. To have only your cubes in the same slot as both King Kubes. Game Setup Each player gets 5 “Ice Cubes” of the same color and one “King Kube” (one of the two beads that are a different color from the rest). From left to right, place one ice cube in each slot with the 4th slot reserved for the King Kube (see figure 1 below). ![]() Determine who goes first by any mutually agreeable method (coin toss, number guess, etc.). Moving the Pieces These are the rules regarding piece movement. 1. The King Kube cannot move by itself. Another piece must be in the slot with the King Kube. 2. Each cube can move one spot by themselves counter-clockwise per turn. 3. Only one slot can be selected for movement per turn. 4. The slot you select must contain at least one of your Ice Cubes (King Kube does not count) Moving Using Multiple Cubes Any slot with multiple cubes can move multiple times in one turn. When moving multiple cubes, these rules apply. 1. Pick up all of the cubes in a slot (even your opponent's cubes). 2. Move to the next slot (the game board movement is counter-clockwise) and drop any one cube you wish. Repeat for each cube you have. 3. The last piece you drop MUST be one of your own. If you have more than one of your own pieces, you can drop those pieces whenever you wish as long as the last piece you drop into a slot is your own. 4. If you drop your last cube before you run out of other cubes, your opponent can call a foul. Your opponent can then choose anywhere on the board to drop the remaining cubes. ![]() Other Rules 1. You may pick up all of the cubes in any slot to examine them more closely before making a move. If you choose not to move with those cubes, you may put them all back. Winning the Game When one player has no opposing pieces in a given slot, that player has “control” of that slot. When a player controls the slot or slots that both King Kubes are in, that player wins the game. Tournament Rules Time Limit for Games: 1 Hour If no clear winner in that time frame, compare number of controlled slots. The one with the most wins. Otherwise, score a tie. For a Limited time, there is no tournament participation fee for Ice Cube Checkers. |
